DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL COMMUNICATIONS MEDIA
Congratulations!
Former SCM student Dionne Bunsha wins an International award.

Dionne Bunsha (Batch of 1994-95) has been declared the winner of the 'Journalism for Tolerance Prize, South Asia', announced by the International Federation of Journalists on 23rd December, 2005 for her article 'Chains of Pirana', Frontline, September 10, 2004, as well as other stories. Dionne won the English Print Prize for her outstanding coverage of the Gujarat carnage. Her moving and humane reporting carries a definite message and Bunsha's courage in exposing how the Gujarati media betrayed itself must be commended, said the jury. The piece 'Peddling Hate' clearly shows how the media even in a democratic set-up can be misused. Ms. Bunsha's excellent and hard-hitting series are also exemplary in promoting tolerance, and combating discrimination.
